Ten Tors Challenge

There may be many challenging outdoor events in Britain today, but Ten Tors stands alone in its scale, its ambition and the fact that it is aimed solely at young people. The Event takes place every year on Dartmoor during the weekend following the May public holiday and is now firmly established in the collective consciousness of the South West. All those who attempt Ten Tors will undoubtedly remember it for the rest of their lives and for many it will be a       life-changing experience.

Training for the Event is the responsibility of the participants’ Establishments and often starts months in advance. Completing Ten Tors is not easy with the terrain, distances and often the climate all conspiring against success. It is though achievable with the right commitment, training, endurance and grit: as the Event’s founder once said: “If there is anything more important than the will to succeed, it is that the will shall not falter.”

The Event starts and finishes at Okehampton Camp and is organised by the Army’s Headquarters South West with support from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as well as civilian emergency services and volunteers. It consists of two challenges, the Ten Tors Challenge and the Jubilee Challenge.

Celebrating 8 of our pupils that took part in the Ten Tors Challenge over the weekend. Sophie and Grace walked 25 miles. Jamie and Will completed the 35-mile course with Blackdown Scouts. Toby completed the 45-mile course with Taunton Air Cadets and Rowan, Ollie and Lara also walked the 45-mile route for Blackdown Scouts. Incredible achievements all round.

Bradfords Crewkerne kindly donated some topsoil, compost, a wheelbarrow and spade for use in our outdoor learning sessions. We are very grateful for their kind generosity. Now for the students to unload all that soil!

Year 12 PE

During year 12 PE, students have been going to Sutton Bingham Reservoir to try different water sports. It's been great to watch their confidence grow over the sessions so far. There are a few spaces left if any more year 12's would like to come on the three remaining sessions. Please see Mr Owen or Mr Evans.

Somerset U14 Boys Tennis County Cup

Marcus King (Year 9) was selected to play for Somerset at Tennis. The county cup was played at Taunton,  where Marcus played exceptionally well - winning all his singles and doubles against Cornwall and Wiltshire! Somerset lost to Hampshire but Somerset won the third/ fourth play off to come third overall. Great effort and determination was shown throughout.

Well played Marcus and well played Somerset!
